Yellow Pig Project

Pig Bank Project

Pretty self-explanatory. Yellowfied.

The scuff was fixed, I will upload a new picture after I get a better camera/unpack the pig again.

Travels - Paris and London

Paris...
Basilique du Sacré-Cœur
London...
Tower Bridge

If you are ever feeling funky about life, run away to a foreign country. It really does help. Note, I need a new camera and after discussion with many people, may end up getting a Canon 7D. Go big or go home, eh?

Roller Derby or What I do on Saturdays

ILWR SufferJets

I volunteer as a non-skating official (NSO) for the local Ithaca League of Women Rollers (ILWR) that contains the SufferJets and the Blue Stockings. Hopefully, one day I will be upgraded to a full Ref.

Beer Brewing Taste Test

One of my friend group's hobbies is to brew our own beer. Every spring, we host a small beer taste test for craft brewers in the Ithaca area. Expect to see more posts about craft brewing and applied microbiology in the future.

Homemade Couch

This is a much older project completed in January of 2007. It is still one of my favorites due to the fact it was relatively inexpensive and came out looking quite neat. Although I have forgotten many of the details of the construction, overall it was a corduroy fabric covering a cushioned, simple trough design. Turned out reasonable.

Unfortunately, with moving across country, the couch was sadly left behind.

Easter Hunt

A bunch of graduate students celebrate Easter by decorating and hiding empty beer bottles. The interpretation of the painting "The Scream" was one of my contributions. Tis the spirit... Photo stolen from Erica Larson.

Synchrotron

Big Science

One of my friends at Cornell University works at the synchrotorn. A synchrotron is a cyclic particle accelerator that synchronizes the particle's magnetic and electric fields. He was generous enough to take an afternoon out of his schedule and show me around the massive complex. Cornell is only one of a handful of universities across the country that are blessed with such a large scientific instrument. The facility itself is located beneath the athletic fields here at Cornell.

Hats off to big science!

Remnants of CLEO

Some of the equipment that is stored around the complex actually are leftover parts from previous projects. The giant plates seen in the first photo are remnants of a magnet that was too large to be removed from the facility. Scattered throughout are many projects completed, ongoing, and planned. It is really a neat example of scientific history and science at work!

A Beginning

My Shadow., originally uploaded by CBMans.

Currently, I am a PhD student in engineering slowly learning more and more about nothing at all. To keep sane, I have diversified my interests to include traveling, small/simple crafts, music, politics, and technology. To keep track of these interests, I have started this humble blog which I shall post to irregularly when inspiration strikes.
